Choose one everyday pattern

A focused goal is easier to discuss than “change everything.” You might want to start a task you keep postponing, make space for a routine, or understand a repeated habit such as nail biting.

Describe when the pattern happens, what tends to come before it, and what you would prefer to do. This is information for a conversation, not a test of willpower.

What matters about the change?

Motivation is a useful topic to explore when a goal feels important but difficult to begin. Consider whether the goal is yours, whether it fits your circumstances, and what practical barriers are present.

Changing a routine can involve practical adjustments as well as reflection. A session should not be presented as a replacement for the time, support, or resources a goal may require.

Where hypnotherapy enters the discussion

HMI lists motivation, procrastination, and changing habits among topics associated with hypnotherapy. A listing is not evidence that every habit responds in the same way.

Ask Ashley how she would explore the pattern with you, what her approach involves, and how you could agree on a realistic goal. Avoid assuming a habit will disappear after a single appointment.

Prepare a simple example

  • The pattern I notice is…
  • It tends to happen when…
  • What I would like instead is…
  • The smallest meaningful change would be…

You do not need to send sensitive details before asking a basic question about sessions. A brief description of the goal is enough to begin a conversation.

Common questions

Is this page about addiction treatment?

No. Everyday habit goals are different from treatment for substance use, addiction, or an eating disorder. Those concerns call for appropriately qualified healthcare support.

What about quitting smoking?

NCCIH reports conflicting research findings for hypnosis and smoking cessation. Discuss a complete quit plan with a healthcare professional rather than assuming hypnosis alone will be effective.

Can I ask about a goal that is not listed?

Yes. Describe it to Ashley and ask whether it falls within her work, or whether a different professional would be more appropriate.
